ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A line of strong storms passed through north Georgia early Sunday morning, bringing torrential rain and possible tornadoes and trees down.
The weather started to move in at around 2 a.m., and metro Atlanta saw the worst effects between 4 and 5 a.m.
A few storms produced wind gusts in excess of 65 mph.
Most of the rain was gone by 7 a.m., and a blast of cooler air will sweep in during the afternoon.

10:00 a.m. | First Alert Meteorologist Cutter Martin is tracking a windy and increasingly cold afternoon behind morning severe storms.
9:50 a.m. | Just under 200,000 customers in Georgia are without power.
9:28 a.m. | The Cobb County Fire Department and Georgia Department of Transportation are responding to multiple trees blocking roads, from both the early morning storm and continuing high winds.
8:30 a.m. | At around 4 a.m., the power at the Clayton County Jail was completely shut down – and remains out, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Levon Allen said kitchen operations, medical equipment and communications are being affected by the power outage.
“The safety and welfare of inmates and staff remains our top priority,” the sheriff said. “Officers and medical staff are on high alert, ensuring that emergency protocols are followed.”
Allen said alternate meal plans and medical accommodations are being checked out at this time.

7:40 a.m. | Barnesville Police are urging people to avoid certain roads due to downed trees and power lines.
7:38 a.m. | Atlanta Fire and Rescue confirms a person died after a tree fell on a home in Grove Park off of Matilda Place. For the full story, click HERE.
7:30 a.m. | Hogansville Police say there is widespread damage throughout the city and county, as both Diverse and Georgia power companies are working to restore power.
7:20 a.m. | Old Alabama Road, between Main Street in Milner and Locust street, is currently closed. Trees and power lines are down across the road, the sheriff’s office said. Southern Rivers is on scene.
7:15 a.m. | Johnson Ferry is blocked both ways, between Sunderland Way and Hampton Hall Way, according to Brookhaven police.
6:57 a.m. | Police in East Point say the area is going through a mass power outage. About 1,308 customers are affected at this time.
6:52 a.m. | A tree fell onto a home in Troup County off Morningside Drive. The residents were able to get out safely, according to emergency officials.

6:27 a.m. | Johns Creek Police say a tree has fallen on Old Alabama Road, causing power lines to fall onto the road. The road from Colherme Court to Buice Road has been closed.

6:15 a.m. | Coweta-Fayette EMC tells us they have “extensive damage” and that crews are finding trees down on wires and broken poles. Currently, in that area there are more than 16,500 customers without power.
6:10 a.m. | A tree fell onto a home and car off Honeysuckle Lane in southwest Atlanta causing major damage. Officials tell us there were injuries and some were transported to the hospital.
