Does that mean we’re done with AFC Richmond? Definitely not. Sudeikis ended that particular worry in a statement on season four. He said, “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap’, in season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
Who is returning to the cast? That seems to be up in the air, though Sudeikis’ statent about AFC Richmond suggests members of the original cast will be involved. We’ll be waiting for word from Waddingham, Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), and Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley), in particular.
It’s hard to imagine Brendan Hunt would return as executive producer without reprising his role as Coach Beard. The same goes for Brett Goldstein, who played Roy Kent and will continue to serve as a writer and executive producer on the show.
Will this be the final season? No word yet, but it does seem like that could be the case, especially considering the group meant to wrap things up with season three. “It’s daunting because we told the story we wanted to tell,” Sudeikis told the Kelce brothers, though he said the “universe” kept pushing for a fourth season.
The universe kept just saying things,” he said, noting everyone from “kind folks at the airport” to industry professionals would push for more Ted Lasso. “And it’s just like, okay, okay. I hear you, I hear you. I hear you. We hear you. We hear you. We’re listening,” he said. “And then more stories kept unfolding and popping up in our in our heads…we’re just exploring all that now.”
Who else is working on the show? It seems much of the original Ted Lasso creative team will be back. “Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fan base all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, said in a statement. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”
Once again, Sudeikis will star and executive produce alongside Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Bill Lawrence will also return as executive producer through his company, Doozer Productions, alongside Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.
Meanwhile, Goldstein will serve as writer and executive producer alongside Leanne Bowen. Other writers and producers include Sarah Walker, Phoebe Walsh, Sasha Garron, Julia Lindon, and story editor Dylan Marron.
One notable new member of the team is executive producer Jack Burditt, who has worked on Modern Family, 30 Rock, and Nobody Wants This.
