Surprising stats behind Real Madrid trio’s horror show against Real Betis

Real Madrid’s attacking trio—Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo—failed to make an impact against Real Betis to the extent that none of them delivered a standout performance, and there was no individual brilliance to salvage the game.

Throughout the 90 minutes, the attacking unit managed just a single shot on target. That lone attempt came from Vinicius, but it was a weak effort that posed no real threat to the Betis goalkeeper, Adrian.

Rodrygo had a shot as well, but it missed the target entirely. Beyond that, there was nothing.

Surprisingly, Mbappe, the team’s biggest star, did not register a single shot—neither on target nor off. His presence on the pitch was minimal, and in 75 minutes of play, he was involved in only 36 actions.

In comparison, Eduardo Camavinga, who came off the bench, had 38, while Arda Guler, another substitute, was not far behind with 33. Mbappe was simply not involved.

The Frenchman’s passing accuracy was also well below expectations, completing just 68% of his passes. To put that into perspective, even Rodrygo, who had an off night himself, managed 82%.

When it came to passing in the final third, Mbappe’s accuracy dropped further to 64%. His dribbling was ineffective as well, completing only three out of six attempted take-ons. He delivered just one cross, adding little to Madrid’s attacking output.

Rodrygo did not fare much better, winning only half of his attempted dribbles—four out of eight. Vinicius struggled even more, completing just 36% of his take-ons, finishing with four successful dribbles from 11 attempts.

Their performance lacked precision, but more importantly, it lacked the intensity and sharpness that Real Madrid needed.

Beyond their technical struggles, questions were also raised about their commitment and quite rightly, the performance sent a clear warning from Carlo Ancelotti; if they continue like this, success in the upcoming challenges will not be possible.
