The NBA trade deadline is mere hours away and the San Antonio Spurs are active. The Spurs made their second trade of the season by acquiring Patrick Baldwin Jr. and cash from the Milwaukee Bucks, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

There have been no reports of what the Spurs are giving up in the deal, but the assumption should be some sort of protected second-round draft capital. Baldwin Jr. was recently traded from the Washington Wizards to the Bucks as a part of the Kyle Kuzma and Kris Middleton swap earlier this week.
Baldwin Jr. has appeared in 22 games for the Wizards this season, averaging 4.6 minutes and 2.1 points, and is shooting 52.4% from three (on 21 attempts). Baldwin Jr. was drafted 28th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Milwaukee, where he played for his father. Baldwin Jr. is a former 5-star college recruit who was ranked 5th overall in his class by ESPN. The 6 foot 9 forward is known for his three-point shooting and size on the wing.
Baldwin Jr. will fit into the Spurs’ 15th open roster spot. His $2.4 million contract fits into the $3.4 million left in the Spurs room Mid-Level Exception. Baldwin Jr. will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Update: The Spurs don’t intend to keep Baldwin, according to San Antonio Express News’ Mike Finger. Unless they find a trade partner, which seems unlikely, Baldwin will probably be waived by San Antonio, just like they did when they acquired Jalen McDaniels from the Kings back in October.
