One of the Arizona Cardinals‘ NFC West rivals is undergoing a huge transition at receiver. The Seattle Seahawks will be turning over the receiver room to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The team announced the release of Tyler Lockett, who played for Seattle for the last decade.
Lockett, now 32 years old, was due $17 million in 2025, including a roster bonus of $5.3 million that was due March 16. He was going to count $30 million against the cap. They save the $17 million cap space. The Seahawks were over the cap and must get below it before the league year begins next Wednesday.
Lockett had 49 receptions for 600 yards and two touchdowns.

But that wasn’t all in the receiver room. Fellow receiver DK Metcalf requested a trade and the Seahawks agreed to explore options.
Metcalf, a two-time Pro Bowler, caught 66 passes for 992 yards and five touchdowns. He is entering the final year of his contract, due $18 million in salary. He would like a new deal.
If a deal does eventually go down, that would mean Seattle is saying goodbye to over 110 catches and nearly 1,600 yards of offense.
With the recent trade agreement the San Francisco 49ers made to send receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders and the intention of the Los Angeles Rams to trade Cooper Kupp, the division will look vastly different at receiver in the NFC West.
