What is a Ladder match? Why are Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens fighting?
Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens will battle for the Undisputed WWE Championship. This match arises from altercations over recent months.
On Oct. 5, Rhodes put aside past differences with Roman Reigns to compete in a tag team match. Owens considered this a betrayal and attacked Rhodes near his bus.
On Dec. 14, Owens and Rhodes battled. Owens pinned Rhodes after the referee had been knocked temporarily unconscious. After the ref recovered, Rhodes pinned Owens, retaining his Undisputed title. However, Owens delivered a banned piledriver and pinned Rhodes after the event, taking the Winged Eagle WWE Title belt − which Rhodes had brought out of retirement for one night − claiming the championship as his.
On Dec. 27, Rhodes challenged Owens to a Ladder match. The Undisputed and Winged Eagle title belts will hang above the ring, and the wrestler who pulls them down takes them.
