Potential Patriots target DK Metcalf traded from Seahawks to Steelers

DK Metcalf will not be catching passes in Foxboro next year. Despite showing interest in the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver even before his trade request, the New England Patriots did not end up as his landing spot.

Instead, Metcalf is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to multiple reports, the Steelers are sending a second-round pick to Seattle for his services, and also signing him to a massive five-year, $150 million contract extension.

Metcalf, 27, originally joined the NFL as a second-round draft pick in 2019 — one of the players famously coming off the board after the Patriots picked eventual first-round bust N’Keal Harry 32nd overall. Unlike Harry, Metcalf developed into a bona fide No. 1 wide receiver in Seattle.

Appearing in 97 regular season games, he caught 438 passes for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns. He also posted a 26-451-5 stat-line in four postseason contests.

Given his past production and still relatively young age, Metcalf would have made plenty of sense for a New England team in need of upgrades at the wide receiver spot. At the moment, the Patriots’ top options are Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker; they also have JaQuae Jackson and John Jiles signed for 2025.

While Metcalf is not headed to New England, the team did make two moves on Sunday. Edge defender Harold Landry and tight end Austin Hooper were signed and re-signed to respective three- and one-year deals.
