Updated: 5:21 AM CST Feb 28, 2025
WIND. TODAY IS GOING TO BE A FACTOR. WE’VE GOT IMPACT WEATHER DAY HERE TO CLOSE OUT THE WEEK ON FRIDAY, AS WE’LL HAVE WARM, WINDY CONDITIONS AND THAT EXTREME FIRE DANGER. AREA WIDE RED FLAG WARNING WILL BE IN EFFECT 10 A.M. TO 8 P.M. WE’LL SEE GUSTS. MOST SPOTS 30 TO 40MPH THROUGHOUT THE DAY, BUT EVEN STRONGER WINDS EXPECTED NORTH OF THE METRO FROM NORFOLK MADISON COUNTY, ALL THE WAY TOWARD CARROLL. THE AUDUBON AREA. DES MOINES, WHERE A WIND ADVISORY WILL BE IN EFFECT. BETTER CHANCE TO SEE THOSE GUSTS UP TO 45MPH. SO THAT COMBINATION OF WINDY, DRY CONDITIONS AVOID ANY TYPE OF BURNING TODAY, AS WE’LL SEE THE WIND RAMP UP QUICKLY THIS MORNING. AND THEN GUSTS 30 TO 40MPH THROUGH MOST OF THE DAY. THAT’S A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW FROM THE EMBASSY SUITES DOWNTOWN TOWARD THE RIVERFRONT. WIND FAIRLY LIGHT AT THE MOMENT. MILD START AGAIN, 39 DEGREES IN OMAHA. A LITTLE SOUTHEAST BREEZE. FEELS LIKE 33 AS YOU STEP OUTSIDE HERE AS WE APPROACH THE 5:00 HOUR. SO ANOTHER MILD MORNING. 30S AND 40S TO START THE DAY. 43 LINCOLN. 45 NORFOLK STILL 49, IN FALLS CITY, BUT THE WIND 5 TO 15MPH. MORE OUT OF THE WEST AND SOUTHWEST FOR NOW. BUT WE’LL START TO SEE THE WINDS FLIP MORE OUT OF THE WEST AND NORTHWEST AS WE GO THROUGH THE MORNING. SO YOUR 12 HOUR FORECAST A WINDBREAKER KIND OF DAY AS WE’LL SEE THOSE TEMPERATURES IN THE 40S, BUT QUICKLY WARMING UP AROUND 60 DEGREES BY NOON, SPENDING MOST OF THE AFTERNOON IN THE LOWER 60S. YOU SEE THE IMPACT ICONS IN AS WE GO LATE MORNING THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. THAT’S WHEN WE’LL SEE THOSE STRONGEST WIND GUSTS AROUND 30 40MPH. AND STILL, THAT RED FLAG WARNING IN PLACE. HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY, LIKE WE’VE SEEN MOST OF THE WEEK. UPPER 50S TO LOW 60. WE’LL SEE THE COOLER SPOTS, BUT STILL VERY WARM. UPPER 50S, LOW 60S. NORFOLK DENISON HARLAN. EXPECT LOW TO MID 60S I THINK ACROSS THE METRO AREA WITH BETTER CHANCE FOR MID AND POSSIBLY SOME UPPER 60S DOWN SOUTH TOWARD BEATRICE AND FALLS CITY, BUT WITH YET ANOTHER WARM DAY ON TOP OF ALL THIS WATCHING POTENTIAL FOR ICE JAM FLOODING AS WE ARE THAWING OUT ALL WEEK LONG. SO WE’VE GOT A FLOOD WATCH ALONG THE ELKHORN, PLATTE AND LOUP RIVERS THAT GOES INTO THE WEEKEND HAVE ALREADY HAD FLOODING SOUTH SIDE OF COLUMBUS ALONG THE LOUP RIVER, SO FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES THIS MORNING AT LEAST UNTIL 9 A.M., SO WATCH OUT ON HIGHWAY 30 WITH FLOODING ONGOING EARLY THIS MORNING, A FEW CLOUDS DRIFTING THROUGH. RIGHT NOW WE ARE GOING TO SEE A LOT OF SUNSHINE, BUT AGAIN, WARMING UP BUT QUITE WINDY THROUGHOUT. WE’LL ALREADY BE IN THE 60S BY NOON. STILL BY 4:00. LOW 60S, BUT THAT COOLER AIR IS GOING TO ADVANCE IN OVERNIGHT. SO BY 8:00, TEMPERATURES ALREADY DROPPING DOWN INTO THE 40S. FOR ANY OF YOUR PLANS TONIGHT, JUST KNOW THAT TEMPERATURE WILL CONTINUE TO DROP BY TOMORROW MORNING. STARTING OFF IN THE 20S, NOT AS WINDY. WIND WILL CALM DOWN. A FEW CLOUDS AROUND, BUT HIGHS IN THE UPPER 30S AND LOW 40S, SO LIKELY TO SEE AROUND A 20 DEGREE TEMPERATURE DROP AS WE GO INTO THE WEEKEND. SO HIGHS IN THE 40S. A LITTLE BELOW AVERAGE, BUT IT’S A QUICK COOLDOWN. WE’LL BE BACK IN THE 50S SUNDAY. CHANCE FOR A FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS SUNDAY NIGHT, BUT THEN MORE WIDESPREAD RAIN EXPECTED TUESDAY AND STILL THE POTENTIAL. WE COULD GET A LITTLE SNOW MIXED
