Kentucky rolled over by No. 1 Auburn in Rupp Arena behind poor shooting, turnovers

Kentucky didn’t have much luck trying to upset visiting No. 1 Auburn Saturday afternoon.After a low-scoring start for both teams that had the game at 7-6 after four minutes of play, Auburn went on a 12-0 run to completely take over.They never looked back from there, rolling over the Wildcats 94-78.The Tigers took a 49-34 lead into the locker room, and while Kentucky was only outscored by a point in the second half, they never got close to eating into Auburn’s lead.Johni Broome, one of the best players in the nation and a strong candidate to win Naismith College Player of the Year, didn’t even need a great game for the blowout win.Broome had nine points, well below his average 25 points a game. He also had six rebounds.Miles Kelly led Auburn with 30 points while Chad Baker-Mazara had 22 and Tahaad Pettiford 21.Kentucky had four players in double figures but not a lot of help from the rest of the squad. Koby Brea led the Cats with 21 points while Andrew Carr had 20. Point guard Lamont Butler notched 15 points but had no assists as he is still coming off his shoulder injury.Amari Williams logged another double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.Otega Oweh only had four points coming off of his 28-point performance against his former team Oklahoma.Kentucky shot an abysmal 24 percent from three, making only four out of 17 attempts. Auburn made 12 out of 26 three-point attempts.The Cats also had 18 turnovers to Auburn’s eight, not a great recipe for trying to mount a winning performance against the No. 1 team in the nation. Kentucky gets a bit of relief Tuesday as they host the LSU Tigers who are 3-12 in the Southeastern Conference. That game is Senior Night for UK and tips in Rupp Arena at 7 p.m.
