NFL’s sack leader from 2024 just became a viable trade target for Packers

The Green Bay Packers want a more disruptive and more consistent four-man pass-rush in 2025, and the NFL’s leader in sacks from 2024 just became available on the trade market.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cincinnati Bengals granted edge rusher Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade — adding another potential trade target to the list for Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst this offseason.

A trade for Hendrickson will likely cost premium draft picks and money on a new contract.

Hendrickson, who led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024, has one year left on his current contract. His base salary is scheduled to be $15.8 million in 2025. If traded, the 30-year-old Hendrickson would undoubtedly want a new, multi-year contract.

Hendrickson produced 35.0 total sacks — 17.5 each season — and 61 quarterback hits over the last two seasons. He has produced at least 10.0 sacks, 20 quarterback hits and 70 pressures in four of the last five seasons — and his only miss was a season in which he produced 8.0 sacks, 24 quarterback hits and 74 pressures in 2022.

Hendrickson measures 6-4 and 270 and fits the Packers’ preferred size profile at defensive end. Teaming him with Rashan Gary could give Jeff Hafley a pair of physically dominant edge rushers to power the pass-rush in all scenarios.

Would the Packers be willing to send draft capital to Cincinnati in a blockbuster trade and sign a soon-to-be 31-year-old veteran to a big deal? Hendrickson is the kind of consistently game-changing defensive player who might be worth the risk for a Packers team that wants to be more than good in 2025.
