Multiple school districts in Mississippi to dismiss early Tuesday due to severe weather

This is a developing story.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Multiple school districts from around the state have announced early dismissals due to expected storms Tuesday.

A First Alert Weather Day has been issued, with the Storm Prediction Center putting central Mississippi under a Level 3/5 risk.

Damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour, tornadoes, and large hail are possible.

The Attala County School District will dismiss at 1:30 p.m.

The Brookhaven School District will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

The Jefferson County School District will dismiss at 12:00 p.m.

The Kosciusko School District will dismiss at 1:10 p.m.

The Lawrence County School District will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

The Lincoln County School District will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

The Rankin County School District will be dismissed at various times determined by each school.

The Clinton Public School District has announced these changes.

Early Release Schedule:

12 p.m. – Clinton Park, Northside, and Eastside.

12:45 p.m. – Lovett, Clinton Junior High School, and Clinton Success Center.

1:30 p.m. – Summer Hill and Clinton High School.

Madison County Schools have announced these changes.

Early Release Schedule:

MCS Preschool: 10 a.m.

Elementary schools: 11:30 a.m.

Shirley Simmons Middle School: 11:45 a.m.

Middle schools: 12:15 p.m.

Academic Options Center: 12:15 p.m.

Rosa Scott School: 12:20 p.m.

High schools: 12:30 p.m.

All extracurricular activities are also canceled for Tuesday.

The Canton Public School District has announced these changes.

Early Release Schedule:

12 p.m. – Elementary Schools

12:30 p.m. – Middle Schools

12:45 p.m. – Canton High School.

The McComb School District will release as follow:

Kennedy Elementary: 11:55 a.m.

Summit Elementary: 12:05 p.m.

Okten Elementary: 12:05 p.m.

Higgins Elementary: 12:10 p.m.

Denman Junior High: 12:45 p.m.

McComb High: 12:40 p.m.

Hinds Community College will transition to virtual classes and work at 12:30 p.m.

The Simpson County School District will begin dismissing at 12:45 p.m.

The Vicksburg Warren School District has announced these changes.

Early Release Schedule:

Elementary: 7:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m

Junior High: 8:25 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

High School: 8:25 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

The Walthall County School District is dismissing at 12:30 p.m.

The Yazoo County School District will begin pickup at 12:00 p.m.

The Redeemer’s School will have an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m.

Jackson Public Schools has announced the following dismissal times.

Early Release Schedule:

Elementary Schools – 12 p.m.

Middle Schools – 12:30 p.m.

High Schools: 1:20 p.m.

The Hinds County School District will implement an early dismissal at the following times.

Early Release Schedule:

11:15 a.m. – Bolton Edwards Middle School, Gary Road Elementary School, Gary Road Intermediate School, Raymond Elementary/Carver Middle School, Main Street Restart Center, and Utica Elementary Middle School.

12 p.m. – Byram Middle School.

12:30 p.m. – Raymond High School and Terry High School.

All after-school activities are also canceled.

Belhaven University will not have classes after 1 p.m.
