‘Malcolm In The Middle’ Revival Sets Malcolm’s Siblings & Daughter As Christopher Masterson & Justin Berfield Return And Dewey Is Recast

Disney Branded Television has rounded out The Wilkersons for the upcoming limited, four-episode revival of Malcolm In the Middle on Disney+, which will reveal the sex and name of the quirky family’s sixth child.

Original cast members Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are set to reprise their roles as Malcolm’s older brothers Francis and Reese, respectively, joining Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek who are back as Malcolm and the Wilkerson parents Hal and Lois, respectively.

Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is taking over the role of genius Malcolm’s (Muniz) younger brother, Dewey. The recasting is not surprising. Erik Per Sullivan, who played the role on the original series, was not expected to return as he quit acting in 2010 and has not participated in any of the Malcolm In the Middle reunions.

Anthony Timpano has been cast as Malcolm’s youngest brother, Jamie, who was seen as a baby and toddler on the original series. And Vaughan Murrae has been cast as Malcolm’s youngest sibling, Kelly whose existence was revealed in the series finale when the boys’ mom, Lois (Kaczmarek), is seen holding a positive pregnancy test.

Kelly, who, along with Murrae, is non-binary, is described as self-sufficient, gets good grades and is already wiser than most of the family.

Additionally, Keeley Karsten has landed a key role in the revival as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah. In addition to Muniz, Cranston and Kaczmarek, the newly cast actors join Kiana Madeira who is playing Malcolm’s girlfriend.

From 20th Television and New Regency, the Malcolm In the Middle revival will feature Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter (Karsten) as they are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.

Malcolm In the Middle creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer. Cranston, Tracy Katsky (KatCo), Gail Berman and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann are executive producers. Ken Kwapis will direct all four episodes and executive produce. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye are co-executive producers.

Masterson appeared in several films, including Scary Movie 2, My Best Friend’s Wedding and American History X. Most recently, he starred opposite Mira Sorvino in the crime thriller Beneath the Leaves.

Berfield also appeared in films Big Move and Who’s Your Daddy? As a producer, and former Chief Creative Officer of entertainment for the Virgin brand, Berfield executive produced reality series Filthy Rich and Relativity Famous: Ranch Rules and co-created and executive produced the sitcom Sons of Tucson.

Ellsworth-Clark most recently appeared in Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. Ellsworth-Clark is repped by Integral Artists.

Timpano’s recent TV credits include guest roles in Fire Country, The Irrational and Wild Cards. In film he was seen in Trap House, Sugar, Mixtape and There’s Someone Inside Your House. Timpano is repped by The Characters Talent Agency.

Murrae’s breakout performance came in the lead role of Before I Change My Mind. Additional recent credits include The Way Home, as well as web series The Solutioneers and Apple’s Ghostwriter. Murrae is repped by Oscars Abrams Zimel & Associates Inc.

Karsten portrayed Natalie Fabelman in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. She recently wrapped a recurring role on the upcoming Apple TV+ series, The Savant and can also be seen in Adult Best Friends, which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. Karsten is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Buchwald.
