Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed in his home in Mumbai, India.

The New York Times spoke to police officials in India who explained that Khan, 54, was stabbed multiple times before dawn at his house — situated in the wealthy Bandra neighborhood — on Thursday, January 16.

While the assailant fled the scene, Dixit Gedam, a deputy commissioner with the Mumbai police, told the outlet they believed the stabbing was part of an attempted burglary.

“We know that the intruder used the fire escape to enter the house,” Gedam told the publication.

After the attack, Khan was brought to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Dr. Nitin Dange, the doctor who treated Khan, revealed his arm and neck had wounds and that his spinal cord was badly injured. Khan underwent surgery to remove the knife and aid in spinal fluid that was leaking,per the outlet.
