Louisiana State Police issues arrest warrant for LSU star involved in deadly crash

Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that happened in Lafourche Parish on Dec. 17 involving an LSU football star. An arrest warrant has been issued for Kyren Lacy, 24, of Thibodaux, for allegedly recklessly passing multiple cars, resulting in a deadly crash. Police say Lacy left the scene of the crash and continued driving south on LA Highway 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the crash.According to state police, Lacey was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 20 and entered the northbound lane in an attempt to overtake other cars while in a marked No Passing Zone. At the same time, a northbound car stopped to avoid crashing with the car. A Kia Cadenza, also traveling north, swerved left to avoid the stopped car but crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Kia Sorento. The drivers of both cars and the passenger of the Sorento sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital. The passenger of the Sorento, identified as Herman Hall, 78, Thibodaux, later died of his injuries. Lacy is wanted for negligent homicide.Lacy is a fifth-year senior at LSU and a wide receiver for LSU football. He declared for the NFL draft two days after the crash. Kyren Lacy issued a statement in regards to the warrant: “We are aware of the allegations that have been made regarding Kyren Lacy, and we want to take this opportunity to address them. First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with the authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation. We recognize the concern and questions that may arise from these recent allegations. To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly. Out of respect of the investigation and everyone involved, we will not be making further comments at this time.” This is an ongoing investigation.
