President Donald Trump falsely said that his administration exposed only the Social Security numbers of deceased people when releasing files this week related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In fact, the private information and Social Security numbers of some living Americans were exposed in the administration’s release of the files, The Washington Post found.

Trump bragged about releasing the information Friday in talking to reporters in the Oval Office: “We even released Social Security numbers. I didn’t want anything deleted,” he said. “They said, ‘Sir, what about Social Security numbers?’ — of people long gone. But they’re long gone, so I can’t imagine. But I said … if you do delete it, we have people are going to say, ‘Why did you delete it? There’s something in there.’ So we gave Social Security, and we gave everything.”
