John Mulaney will do a lot for his loved ones, but a round-trip flight to grab one piece of mail? Maybe not.

While appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Friday, Dec. 20, host Seth Meyers asked how his wife Olivia Munn’s mother, Kim Munn, is doing, and — naturally — the Saturday Night Live alum, 42, gave a life update by sharing a hilarious story.

“She’s good. She’s been living with us in California,” Mulaney told Meyers, 50. “I’m not sure how long that’s going to last and — or why it’s happening, really.”

After Kim moved in with the family, the comedian continued, “she had a property bill come to her home in Oklahoma.”

To secure the mail, she asked Mulaney for a small favor — a round-trip flight.

“She asked me if I would book her a plane ticket back to Oklahoma to get the envelope out of the mailbox and then fly back,” he explained, prompting a giggle from Meyers.

A puzzled Mulaney then asked Kim why she did not ask her sister — who is also her next-door neighbor in Oklahoma — to simply mail the bill to her current address in California, to which she apparently responded, “I don’t want it to travel that far. But I don’t like my mail traveling that far.”

So the comedian offered another solution. At the time, Kim’s husband was going to go back to Oklahoma, so he posed, “Why don’t you give him the check and he’ll fly back and mail it?”

“And she said, ‘I don’t want my check flying on a plane,’” Mulaney recalled. “So she wanted a round-trip ticket to go mail a letter in Oklahoma.”

After a break to laugh, Meyers then ribbed, “So it sounds like it’s going pretty good,” and Mulaney agreed: “Yeah, things are good. It’s minute to minute.”

He did not, however, reveal if or how Kim ultimately got her property bill.

Kim officially became Mulaney’s mother-in-law earlier this year when he and Olivia, 44, tied the knot.

The couple got married in July in a simple, intimate ceremony at a friend’s home in New York state, a source close to Mulaney told PEOPLE at the time. Only their son, Malcolm Hiệp, and a witness were in attendance.

The couple also welcomed a second child — and younger sister to Malcolm, 3 — Méi June, months later in September.

At the time, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that the pair were “in total bliss with Méi and Malcolm.”

“After everything they have been through there’s no tighter, closer little family,” the insider added.
