Actor Jan Patrick “J.P.” Schwieterman, best known for starring in Nickelodeon’s Good Burger, has died at the age of 52.
Jan died at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo. on February 28, according to his obituary. His brother, Chad Schwieterman, also confirmed the news in a Facebook post, sharing that the actor died after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman,” Chad wrote on March 1. “He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer and passed yesterday evening. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time.”
“Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you,” he added.

Jan was born born in Bluffton, Ind. — located approximately 25 miles south of Fort Wayne, Ind. — on Sept. 30, 1972. When he was a child, he participated in the Boy Scouts of America and was “proud” to have become an Eagle Scout during his youth.
After high school, he moved to California with aspirations of becoming an actor. He earned his first role in 1994 in the TV series McKenna before going on to guest star in other big shows at the time including ER, Forever, NightMan, Undressed and Felicity.

In 1997, he snagged the role of the villainous character Kurt Bozwell in Nickelodeon’s Good Burger, acting alongside comedians Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. He also starred in 1999’s Warlock III: The End of Innocence and American Intellectuals.
In the 2000 he starred in Fallen Arches before taking a seven-year hiatus from acting. He returned on screen as Michael Braga in the 2007 film Along the Way, which would become his final film credit.
Jan also enjoyed other artistic pursuits such as photography and painting and studied martial arts, according to his obituary. The former actor played Dungeons and Dragons in his down time.

Aside from those activities, he also “loved to travel,” most recently visiting Thailand.
His funeral was held on March 4, and the family asked that any donations be sent to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
The actor is survived by his parents LeeRoy Schwieterman and Clara Reed, two sisters, Megan and Vanessa, his brother Chad and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
