High pressure is going to remain in control for much of this week and although temperatures will be a little bit milder to start, we do have more cold air moving in.
Boston received 1.8 inches of snow over the weekend, bringing the total so far this season to 7½ inches, which is exactly 50 percent of what you’d expect by now. Remember, snowfall is very erratic so the fact that it’s half of average is, to be honest, fairly meaningless.
A quick major snowstorm will bring us back or even above average were it to happen.
Today will be sunny and dry with high temperatures reaching around 40 degrees.
Take advantage of the clear skies tonight with the full Wolf Moon rising in the east at sunset. As the moon gets higher in the sky, it’s an opportunity to see Mars, which is quite bright, basically next to the full moon. This is a beautiful sight and for those of you who might be photographers, it’s an opportunity to get a nice picture.
The dry weather is going to continue the entire work week with temperatures cooling off tomorrow. It’ll be about 10 degrees colder for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
As the gradient tightens back up again, Tuesday winds will increase and it’s going to be breezy for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. It won’t be quite as windy as it was last week, but nevertheless it’s going to feel colder than the actual temperature.
Conditions begin to warm up as we head into the weekend and there could be some precipitation here Saturday or Saturday night. It’s likely to actually be too warm for snow and we could see some rain instead.
Finally, civil twilight in the afternoon is now after 5 p.m. This means that you can get outside and take advantage of an afternoon walk up until that time.
Southern New England: Look for dry conditions the next couple of days. It will be near 40 in the afternoon today with sunshine.
Western Mass.: Plenty of sunshine across the area for today with temperatures in the ’30s. Tonight will be clear.
Cape and Islands: Any morning cloudiness will decrease and temperatures will be up near 40 this afternoon.
Northern New England: Look for temperatures just above freezing this afternoon with a couple of snow showers in the hillier terrain.
