The impacts of the arctic blast ravaging Texas are far from over in San Antonio. The worst temperature drops hit the city and surrounding towns Wednesday night, but freezing rain and more frigid blasts of air are on the horizon for Military City, USA.
It’s been deemed the strongest winter storm of the season. This week’s winter storm brought snow and ice to areas of Texas and extremely cold, if not unbearable, temperatures to San Antonio. Now, it looks like freezing rain followed by very, very cold rain could be next up for the Alamo City.

As the arctic air continues to linger over the city, untimely rain chances also move into the region by Friday, February 21. With this combination, the National Weather Service warns there’s a 20% chance of freezing rain or drizzle Friday night into Saturday morning that could spell even colder feels just as the weekend begins.
On Saturday, rain chances spike to 40-50%, according to the latest data from the national forecaster, but temperatures will climb well enough above freezing to avoid any solid precipitation. It does, however, mean it’ll likely be a very cold and wet weekend in San Antonio.
Temperatures aren’t expected to break above the low 40s until Monday, when there will be a shocking yo-yo effect as afternoon temps climb to nearly 75. In the meantime, evenings will continue to be quite chilly through the weekend, dipping down into the mid to upper 30s. Afternoons will be in the upper 30s to mid 40s for the rest of the week and much of the weekend, but a warmup will start to take place by Sunday afternoon.
