PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — It’s a new day in Foxboro, Jerod Mayo out as head coach. And every fan has an opinion.

“I was not surprised, I was ecstatic,” said Josh Barnes, a local Patriots fan. “This team is poised for the future I really do believe it.”

The news broke shortly after the New England patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills 23-16 in their final game of the season. It was only the teams fourth win of the year.

Many Patriots fans expressed frustration with the teams win today. Should the Patriots have lost they would have secured the number one draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

“Obviously they were probably mad at him for winning today and missing the number one draft pick,” said Tyrone Robinson of Cranston. “I don’t think it was really fair of them I don’t think he got a fair shot.”

Patriots owner Robert Kraft released a statement to fans after the decision saying in part, “This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.”

Many fans NBC 10 spoke with on Sunday night said they hope Mike Vrabel will be the next head coach of the team.
