Earthquake shakes Bay Area Monday night

A preliminary magnitude 4.0 earthquake gave the San Francisco Bay Area a short jolt on Monday night. The quake hit shortly after 7:45 p.m. and was centered near Dublin, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was measured at a depth of 11.7 kilometers, or about 7 miles. According to the USGS’s epicenter map, shaking was felt as far north as the border of Solano and Yolo counties and as far south as Santa Cruz.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The USGS has given the quake a preliminary intensity rating of IV, which indicates light shaking and no damage; the scale goes from I to X.
