Earthquake reported ~15 miles southwest of Whatcom County | Whatcom News

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Seismologists with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PSNS) reported an earthquake was detected about 5am today, Monday, March 3, 2025, on the southeast coast of Orcas Island. The epicenter was about 15 miles southwest of Whatcom County.

The earthquake was determined to have had a magnitude of 4.5 with an epicenter depth of about 10 miles.

The NWS National Tsunami Warning Center issued a statement for Alaska, BC and the US west coast at 5:05am, “There is NO tsunami danger from this earthquake.”

No reports of property damage had been immediately reported.

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake is considered a “weak earthquake.” Earthquakes in this range may be felt locally and are not expected to cause damage.

Many throughout the Puget Sound region, including Whatcom County reported feeling the quake.
