Congressman Al Green says he’ll file new impeachment articles against Trump

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Al Green from Houston has announced that he will file new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

 Impeachment announcement

What we know:

The Democrat U.S. Representative announced his plan to file impeachment articles during a speech on Wednesday where he denounced President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During a meeting between the two leaders on Tuesday, President Trump said he wants the U.S. to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere.

Rep. Green called the president’s idea “ethnic cleansing.”

“Dr. [Martin Luther] King was right. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. And injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” said Rep. Green.

Rep. Al Green says the impeachment articles he plans to file against President Trump will be for “dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”

He adds the “movement” to impeach Trump will be a grassroots movement led by regular people.

“The people have got to move forward. The people have to demand it. And when they demand it, it will be done,” he said.

What we don’t know:

Details about these expected articles of impeachment are limited at this time. It’s not clear when they will be filed.

Rep. Green’s ties to previous Trump impeachment attempts

The backstory:

President Trump was impeached twice during his first term in office. He was eventually acquitted on all counts by the U.S. Senate.

Rep. Al Green co-led the second attempt to impeach President Trump during his first term in office. Several lawmakers were calling for his removal from office after the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot.

Rep. Green has also made numerous attempts to impeach Trump beforehand.
