Buckeye Chuck did not see his shadow this Groundhog Day (WSYX)

MARION, Ohio (WSYX) — Early spring, or more winter? Buckeye Chuck has the answer for us this Groundhog Day.

Community members gathered in Marion on Sunday morning for the Groundhog Day celebration at the Marion County Fairgrounds.

Visitors could take photos with Buckeye Chuck and could purchase t-shirts and enjoy refreshments at the event.

Ohio got some good news; Buckeye Chuck did not see his shadow, which (hopefully) means an early spring for the state.

Buckeye Chuck has been the state’s official weather-predicting groundhog since 1979, and organizers told us the groundhogs who take on the role of Buckeye Chuck come from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History each year.

While groundhogs can make some bold predictions, if you’re looking for a more detailed forecast, our First Warning Weather Team is on your side, shadow or otherwise.
