Beyoncé’s history-making turn at the Grammy Awards last night was just the boost she needed for “Cowboy Carter” to surge back up on streaming, as her eighth album saw a 795 percent increase on Spotify compared to the day prior.
At the Grammys, the singer took home the awards for album of the year, best country album and best country duo/group performance for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus. The wins had a ripple effect compared to average song plays on Spotify across “Cowboy Carter,” with “My Rose” and “Oh Louisiana” up 175 percent, plus “Ameriican Requiem” increasing 170 percent. Other surges included “Protector” (150 percent), “Alliigator Tears” (140 percent) and “II Most Wanted” (135 percent).
The Grammys were a massive night for Beyoncé, who finally won for album of the year after coming up empty-handed in the category four previous times. “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, for all of the hard work,” she said in accepting. “I want to dedicate this to Miss (Linda) Martell, and I’ll just hopefully keep pushing forward, opening doors.”
With the win, she became the first Black woman to take home album of the year since Lauryn Hill did the same with “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in 1999. She capped her wins by announcing the dates for her “Cowboy Carter” tour, kicking off on Apr. 28 with four dates at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium before touching down in London, Paris and her native Houston. The trek ends with two nights at Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium.
