Jessica Gunning had flashbacks to her childhood while accepting her award at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night.
Reminiscing with the audience about getting a hamster for Christmas at eight years old, she said: “I just kept saying, ‘I can’t believe this has happened to me.’”
She felt similar while standing on stage Sunday, accepting her second award for her breakout supporting turn in Netflix’s Baby Reindeer.
The actress was awarded for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role On Television. This marks her first nomination and win. The honor follows Gunning’s first Primetime Emmy win in September.
“I realized this moment has been a kind of soundtrack for my life for this last year,” she explained. “I cannot believe any of this has happened to me.”

She added that the Netflix limited series “changed my life in ways that I can’t even explain,” and that her 8-year-old self would be blown away by where she stood in that moment.
Baby Reindeer won big at the Emmys, also scoring an acting win for star and creator Richard Gadd as well as the trophy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Based on Gadd’s hit Edinburgh Fringe one-man play, which was itself based on his personal experiences, Baby Reindeer emerged as a bona fide cultural phenomenon upon its April debut, spending eight weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV (English) list and reaching the Top 10 TV in 92 countries. The show follows struggling comedian Donny Dunn’s (Gadd) warped relationship with his female stalker, Martha (Gunning), and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deeply buried trauma.
Wim De Greef, Petra Fried, Gadd, Matt Jarvis and Ed Macdonald exec produced the show, with Matthew Mulot serving as its producer.
