Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D., N.H.) said she was disappointed that Pete Hegseth didn’t meet with Democratic senators before asking him to address his past comments about women in the military.

“Should we take it to believe that you believe that the two women on this committee who have served honorably and with distinction made our military less effective?” Shaheen asked.

Hegseth said he agreed women make important contributions to the military but his concerns were about “standards.” Shaheen said Hegseth appeared to change his views once he was nominated as defense chief.
