Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media after the team’s 2-1 loss to Real Betis on Saturday. In a very brief press conference, Ancelotti made his feelings clear about the team’s chances to win against Atletico Madrid if they play this way. He said: “If we play like this we won’t win on Tuesday, that’s pretty clear. Hopefully, this will wake us up. It seemed like we were organized and compact in recent times and we weren’t able to do it.”
Ancelotti on the match
“We started well, but we were not able to maintain the initial rhythm, both in terms of attitude and commitment. We lost control against a team that played better and deserved to win.”
Ancelotti on whether the reason is attitude
“I don’t know. I’m not in the players’ heads. But what happened is this: the initial rhythm, the good positioning of the first 20’, we lost it. We started to lose the ball… 27 in the first half! That’s too many losses. And Betis is back.”
Ancelotti on whether the league is slipping away
“Yes, this is a hard blow. We have to react. Losing at this stage is very expensive, because all the teams are running and we… we didn’t play well in this match.”
Ancelotti on subbing off Kylian Mbappé
“He hadn’t trained much and he wasn’t at his best. It was obvious. So to avoid problems I preferred to take him off and put Endrick in. Mbappé hadn’t trained much and he wasn’t at 100%.”
