Adrien Brody is being slammed by some Oscars 2025 viewers for taking his gum out of his mouth and throwing it at his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, just before he got onstage to accept the best actor award.
“The Brutalist” star, 51, was announced as the winner by Cillian Murphy and immediately embraced Chapman, 48. After hugging some of his co-stars and director Brady Corbet, he headed to the Dolby Theatre stage to give his speech.

But Brody briefly stopped, took his gum out of his mouth and tossed it down at Chapman, who ran from her seat in the front row to catch it.
“It was rude for Adrien Brody to throw his gum at his girlfriend like that,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“I would love to know the internal monologue Adrien Brody had in his head when he decided to throw his gum (?!) to his partner in the first row,” another viewer said.

A third person wrote, “I hate Adrien Brody winning because I had to watch him dig gum out of his mouth and throw it at his partner.”
“Arrest adrien brody for hurling his gum at his wife at the oscars,” a different tweet read.

“No shade but adrien throwing that gum at his wife was so tacky and gross,” someone else said.
“The way Adrien Brody threw his gum into the crowd made me actually stop in my tracks and gag. WHY,” another viewer tweeted.
During his five-minute speech, Brody — who beat Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Sebastian Stan and Ralph Fiennes in the best actor category — said that winning his second Oscar is “beyond the pinnacle of a career” and hopes it proves he’s “worthy of such meaningful, important and relevant roles.”

“No matter where you are in your career and what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away,” he said. “And I think what makes this night most special is the awareness of that and the gratitude that I have to still do the work that I love.”
Brody also gave a shout-out to Chapman and her two children, whom she shares with her ex-husband, incarcerated Harvey Weinstein.
“I share this with my amazing partner, Georgina,” he said, “who has not only reinvigorated my own self worth, but my sense of value and my values and her beautiful children, Dash and India. I know this as been a roller coaster but thank you for accepting me into your life and Popsie’s coming home a winner.”

Brody and Chapman’s romance was first confirmed in February 2020. They made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
The Marchesa founder split from Weinstein, 72, after he was accused of rape and sexual assault by multiple women in 2017. Their divorce was finalized in July 2021.

On the Oscars red carpet, Brody and Halle Berry reenacted their passionate kiss from the 2003 Academy Awards right in front of Chapman.
“Sorry Georgina, but I have to,” Berry, 58, said to Chapman as she smooched Brody on the lips.
Chapman was unbothered by the kiss and laughed and cheered in the moment.
