Arsenal 5-1 Manchester City – 3 takeaways as Gunners pound Cityzens

Arsenal now moves nine points clear of Manchester City after the 5-1 thumping at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side blew away Pep Guardiola’s with a devastating second-half performance to move within six points of league leaders Liverpool and nine points ahead of City.

In what was the best start possible, Martin Odegaard settled the nerves with within the games first few minutes, and while the Gunners were made to pay for another first half of wastefulness, as Erling Haaland’s header brought the visitors level.

But that spurred Arsenal to click into gear and three goals in the next 20 minutes from Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Kai Havertz, before a late Ethan Nwaneri goal saw the Gunners blow apart a poor City side and make a statement to the rest of the Premier League that they are finally starting to hit their straps.

Given that City had started to garner some momentum and with a win, would have been within three points of Arsenal, it was crucial that the Gunners keep City at arm’s length, and they did.

The win now sees a nine-point gap between themselves and City, while the pressure of sorts is on Liverpool who are now just six ahead of Arsenal.

It was a big night, and the Gunners had the perfect result, which was a dominating one that puts City in the rearview mirror (for now) and puts Liverpool well within their sights.
