The Detroit Lions will have a new backup quarterback for tonight’s game vs. the Washington Commanders.
The Lions have made Hendon Hooker inactive as the emergency third quarterback against the Commanders, which means veteran Teddy Bridgewater will serve as the backup to Jared Goff tonight.
Bridgewater retired after the 2023 season to coach high school football at his alma mater, Miami Northwestern. After leading Northwestern to a Florida high school state championship this season, Bridgewater came out of retirement and joined the Lions’ quarterback room in late December. He served as Detroit’s emergency third quarterback behind Goff and Hooker to end the regular season, but with the playoffs upon us, the Lions opted for Bridgewater’s experience in the backup role.
Bridgewater has made 65 career starts and has a 33-32 career win-loss record with 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
