Five takeaways from No. 8 Florida’s 73-43 victory vs. No. 1 Tennessee

The Florida men’s basketball team secured arguably its most impressive victory in head coach Todd Golden’s time in Gainesville, downing No. 1-ranked Tennessee, 73-43, in front of a sold-out crowd in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

The Gators opened the game on a 12-0 run and would lead by as many as 36, with the Volunteers struggling to convert from the field, allowing UF to secure the program’s first-ever victory at home against a team ranked atop the Associated Press’ Top 25.

Alijah Martin led the Gators in scoring with 18 points to go along with six rebounds, while junior guard Denzel Aberdeen provided critical scoring, finishing with a season-high 16 points in 20 minutes off of the bench.

“Obviously a great performance by our players tonight,” Golden said. “I thought they did a wonderful job executing our game plan from start to finish.”
