IN FACT, MORE THAN 21,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED LAST NIGHT’S MATCHES HERE AT THE KFC YUM! CENTER, AND THAT SET AN NCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SEMIFINAL ATTENDANCE RECORD. BEING ABLE TO PUT THE THE CARDS IN THIS FACILITY WITH SUCH A GREAT CROWD IS AMAZING AND SPEAKS TONS FOR THE KIND OF COMMUNITY THAT WE HAVE AND THE LOVE THAT WE HAVE FOR VOLLEYBALL. TERRI PERAICA HAS BEEN AROUND THE VOLLEYBALL SCENE IN LOUISVILLE FOR NEARLY 30 YEARS, COACHING CLUB FOR UNION AND HIGH SCHOOL FOR PROVIDENCE. SHE SAYS THE SPORT HAS EXPLODED IN THE CITY IN RECENT YEARS. I THINK WE HAVE GREAT CLUB. I DO, I THINK THERE’S SEVERAL GOOD CLUBS HERE THAT ARE DOING A GREAT JOB WITH THEIR KIDS AND AND THEIR PROGRAMING. I ALSO THINK THE HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL IN THE AREA, BOTH IN SOUTHERN INDIANA AND IN LOUISVILLE, IS AT AN ELITE LEVEL RIGHT NOW AND DOING GREAT THINGS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. TESTAMENT TO THAT IS THE TWO LOCAL KIDS GETTING TO COMPETE ON ONE OF THE SPORT’S BIGGEST STAGES. ASSUMPTION GRAD ANNA DEBEER AND MERCY GRAD ELENA SCOTT BOTH PLAY FOR THE CARDS. THEY ARE JUST NOT ONLY JUST ELITE ATHLETES AND SUCH FUN COMPETITORS TO WATCH, BUT THEY ARE FANTASTIC PEOPLE. ELENA SCOTT WILL COME INTO UNION’S GYM, SIGN AUTOGRAPHS, TAKE PICTURES AND THAT THING MEANS SO MUCH TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION. BOTH SCOTT AND DEBEER ARE IN THEIR FINAL YEAR AT LOUISVILLE AND HAVE HAD THEIR EYES ON THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN THEIR HOMETOWN ALL YEAR. IT’S CRAZY. IT’S DEFINITELY A FULL CIRCLE MOMENT. LIKE, LOOKING BACK, WE REALLY WEREN’T SURE IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE IT HERE. LIKE OBVIOUSLY AT THE PROGRAM, WE REALLY WANTED TO GET HERE AND THE FACT THAT WE ARE. IT’S JUST SUPER EXCITING. WITH THE OPPORTUNITY FINALLY HERE. DEBEER SAYS SHE’S GRATEFUL FOR THE CHANCE TO CONTINUE UPLIFTING THE SPORT. IT’S JUST SUPER COOL HOW MUCH THE SPORT HAS GROWN IN LOUISVILLE AND HOW MUCH PEOPLE LITTLE, LITTLE GIRLS ARE IN SUPPORT OF US. SO IT’S JUST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY EVERY DAY. LITTLE KIDS CAN HAVE A DREAM AND THEY CAN ALSO SEE THE BLUEPRINT OF HOW YOU ACHIEVE THAT DREAM BY SEEING SOME OF THESE LOCAL KIDS GO UP THROUGH THE RANKS. SO, YOU KNOW, THEY’RE JUST AN INSPIRATION. IT’S ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE LOCAL KIDS ON THE NATIONAL STAGE, AND THE CARDS ARE GOING TO NEED THAT HOMETOWN SUPPORT ON SUNDAY WHEN THEY FACE PENN STATE, AND TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. LIVE FROM T
