ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – A Wind Advisory is in place this afternoon through 4 a.m. Sunday as southerly winds bring in wind gusts up to 40+mph. After midnight, around 1 a.m. on Sunday, we expect a broken line of storms to arrive with potential impacts. All modes of severe weather are possible, including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. A First Alert Weather Day is in place ahead of this line, and the timing is between 1 a.m. through 11 a.m. on Sunday.
There is a rare high risk (5 out of 5) of severe storms to our west today, bringing in dangerous tornadoes, large hail, and destructive winds. As this line of storms moves east, the risk has upgraded to Moderate (4/5) for areas along the AL/GA line, while an Enhanced (3/5) to Slight Risk (2/5) continues for all others. Within the moderate and enhanced risk, a significant impact of EF 2 (Wind speeds 111+ MPH) or greater tornadoes is possible, along with destructive 70+ mph wind gusts for areas mainly east of I-75.
Keep in mind that threats are the same, and everyone should remain alert with multiple ways to receive warnings and know where to seek shelter. Be safe in an interior room and stay away from windows to avoid flying debris.
Expect the storms to move out early afternoon which brings an end to the severe threat.
