BAKERSFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Missouri Highway Patrol reports at least 12 people have died from storms Friday night, including three in Ozark County.
The Highway Patrol says there were up to 19 tornadoes of varying strengths that impacted 25 counties in the state.
The storm hit the Bakersfield community near the Howell and Ozark County lines around 8:30 p.m. and damaged homes and businesses in the area. The National Weather Service radar indicated the storm was a tornado, but it has not been confirmed as such.
Storms also hit the Rolla and Seymour areas. However, we have not heard of any serious injuries from that storm.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reported six deaths in Wayne County in southeast Missouri. Those deaths happened at a campground area.
The statewide deaths include:
- 3 Deaths in Ozark County (sheriff confirmed 3rd death after Missouri Highway Patrol)
- 1 Death in Butler County
- 6 Deaths in Wayne County
- 1 Death in Jefferson County
- 1 Death in St. Louis County
The patrol and local agencies are working to assist those in need and assess the damage. Troopers urge residents to avoid debris-filled areas, watch for downed power lines, and follow regional emergency services for localized updates.
