Kanye West and SZA Are Not on Playboi Carti’s New Album, ‘Music,’ Contrary to Rumors

It’s often said that one downside of streaming is the lack of traditional album artwork, like you get with vinyl and CD releases — and a side-effect of that is the lack of full credits. It’s crazy, but there is no official source for full album credits. Sure, you can find songwriter and producer credits on Spotify if you dig for them (move your cursor to the far right of a song’s title, click on the “…,” scroll down to “View credits,” click, and voila! — easy, right?); Tidal has nearly full credits but you must be a Tidal subscriber; other sources, like Genius.com and Wikipedia, are usually accurate but not always.

Consequently, rumors fly — like the ones that say Kanye West produced “Good Credit,” a song featuring Kendrick Lamar on Playboi Carti’s blockbuster new album “Music” (yes, the title is just “Music,” even though the artwork reads “I Am Music”). A rep for Carti confirms to Variety that West did not produce the song, even though it features a sped-up sample similar to songs from his 2004 debut “College Dropout.”

Likewise, SZA is not featured anywhere on the album — that’s actually singer-songwriter-rapper Jhene Aiko, the rep confirms.

Full credits for “Music” are not yet available — so many last-minute tweaks were being made to the 76-minute, 30-track album that it missed the traditional midnight ET release time and did not arrive on streaming services until seven and a half hours later. (Ironically, similar delays have occured with recent releases from SZA and West.)

However, the album does feature guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott (on three songs each), as well as Aiko, the Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign and Young Thug.

Carti, along with A$AP Rocky and Peso Pluma, is slated to headline the Rolling Loud California 2025 festival this weekend, taking place on Saturday and Sunday at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, Calif.

The long-delayed “Music” is Carti’s first full-length album since 2020’s “Whole Lotta Red” (released on Christmas Day that year). “Music” was officially announced back in September of last year, alongside the release of the single “All Red.”
