BOSTON — The Celtics were already without five rotation players against the 76ers on Wednesday, then one of their starters had to head to the locker room. C’s guard Derrick White looked like he lost a tooth after getting hit in the face by the 76ers’ Kelly Oubre Jr. midway through the second quarter.
White ended up back in Thursday’s game after what the team called a “dental injury.” So he did end up losing a tooth in another dental-related accident on the court.
White was guarding Oubre when he took a shot to the face as Oubre drove to the bucket. As White stumbled holding his jaw, he picked up what looked like a tooth. The C’s took a timeout afterwards so White could sub out of the game as he went straight to the locker room.
Of course, Celtics fans will remember when White chipped one of his front teeth during Game 5 of the 2024 NBA Finals against the Mavericks. Fortunately, White had his tooth fixed up temporarily afterwards in time for the Celtics’ championship parade.
