Mardi Gras continues in New Orleans: See photos of 2025 celebrations

Mardi Gras in the Big Easy is almost over, but the energy is still alive.

Despite some schedule changes and cancellations due to weather concerns, people still took over the streets for the parades in New Orleans on Tuesday to celebrate.

City officials prioritize a “safe and fun” Mardi Gras by ramping up security efforts, especially in the French Quarter. It’s a response to the fatal terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve.

Mardi Gras, also known in English as Fat Tuesday, occurs right before Ash Wednesday, which kicks off the 40-day Lenten season. While one of the most famous Mardi Gras celebrations is in New Orleans, the holiday is celebrated across the globe, from North America, to South America, Europe and Asia.

Footage from the USA TODAY’s livestream shows a vibrant and cheering crowd in New Orleans catching beads from the floats.

These photos capture the essence of the 2025 Mardi Gras celebration.
