Denver weather: Pinpoint Weather Alert Day Tuesday for blowing snow

DENVER (KDVR) — Tuesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for accumulating snowfall that will impact Denver’s weather, and have bigger impacts for communities along the foothills and Palmer Divide.

Monday night, rain showers will transition to snow as lows fall toward freezing.

Snow showers and strong wind gusts continue through Tuesday morning.

There will be a wide range of snowfall totals, including less than an inch in the Denver area, and higher totals toward the foothills and Palmer Divide.

The Eastern Plains will see lower totals, but strong wind gusts at 60 to 70 mph will lead to blizzard conditions. Snow and wind will lead to difficult travel conditions through Tuesday afternoon and into the evening for some spots.

Because of this, there are winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings that will be in effect for higher elevations for accumulating and blowing snow that will lead to difficult travel. Blizzard warning will be in effect for Eastern Colorado through Tuesday evening as wind gusts up to 70 mph blow around snow and create whiteout conditions.

High wind warnings will continue for most of eastern Colorado as strong wind gusts reach 70 mph.

By the afternoon, clouds will clear and temperatures will rise to the mid 40s.

Wednesday will be dry, sunny and cool with a high only reaching the upper 40s. Thursday will start off dry, followed by seasonally cool temperatures reaching around 50 degrees.

By Thursday afternoon, clouds will increase ahead of the next round of showers late. Snow showers will start off in the mountains on Thursday, then a wintry mix will reach the Denver area before transitioning to snowfall as temperatures fall below freezing.

Friday morning, the chance for a few light snow showers will linger, and could lead to some slick spots on the road. Then, sunshine returns by the weekend and will contribute to a warming trend that will bring highs to the 50s on Saturday, then 60s Sunday and Monday.
