Proud sibling Macaulay Culkin is not at all surprised that his younger brother, Kieran Culkin, won his first Oscar at the 2025 Academy Awards.

Speaking to host Tan France on the red carpet of Vanity Fair‘s annual Oscars afterparty in Los Angeles on Sunday, Culkin reacted to his brother’s win for Best Supporting Actor and admitted that he tuned in to only that portion of the telecast.

“Did you watch any of the show tonight?” France asked Culkin and his fiancée Brenda Song.

“Of course,” said Song.

“Just the Best Supporting Actor,” noted Culkin. “That’s the only thing I watched. True story, true story.”

“I mean, of course,” said France, asking the actor if he had reached out to Kieran following the momentous win.

“I cried,” shared Culkin of his reaction to his brother’s win. “And I was like, ‘I’m gonna see you later.’”

As for whether he and partner Song expected the win, Song said, “Of course. Let’s be real. We’re allowed to say that.”

“Yeah, absolutely,” added Culkin. “He was front row, aisle, closest to the stairs. There was no way he was not going to win.”

The younger Culkin won for his performance in director and star Jesse Eisenberg‘s A Real Pain. A meditation on intergenerational trauma, the dramedy centers on Culkin and Eisenberg’s semi-estranged cousins as they tour Poland in memory of their late grandmother. The win capped off an awards season sweep for the star, who picked up the Golden Globe, BAFTA, Independent Spirit Award, and SAG Award for the role.

In his acceptance speech, the younger Culkin thanked Eisenberg and his wife, Jazz Charton — and also reminded the latter of a previous wager. “About a year ago, I was on a stage like this, and I very stupidly, publicly, said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award, she would give me the kid,” he said, referencing his Emmys speech last year. “After the show, she goes, ‘Oh, God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I turned to her and I said, ‘Really? I want four.’ She said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.'”

Culkin, who has two kids with Charton, added, “Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you.”

Like his older brother, Kieran began his career as a child star. His first role was opposite Macaulay in 1990’s Home Alone, playing Fuller, the Pepsi-lovin’ cousin of Culkin’s Kevin McCallister.
