The second B.C. earthquake in four days to hit beyond the 5-magnitude struck off the north coast of Vancouver Island Monday night.

A 5.3-magnitude quake was recorded at 9:37 p.m., about 200 kilometres west of Port McNeill, according to the US Geological Survey. Earthquakes Canada pegs it at 5 magnitude.

With no damage and no tsunami threat, this one wasn’t felt, unlike the Friday, Feb. 21 earthquake.

That afternoon a 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit near the Sunshine Coast, around 1:30 p.m.

While there was no damage reported, it was felt by residents up and down the coast of the province. A shallower shift, the earthquake about 24 kilometres northeast of Sechelt, struck at a depth of one kilometre.

In that case, some people in B.C. received alerts to their cellphones from Natural Resources Canada that an earthquake was detected.
