22 Years Later, Lindsay Lohan Is Staging a ‘Freaky’ Return

Get ready to party like it’s 2003. Twenty-two years ago, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis starred as body-switching mother and daughter in the Disney hit Freaky Friday. And now, later, they’re both back for a sequel that nobody saw coming, Freakier Friday.

Well, maybe we should have seen this sequel coming. Despite the fact that most elder millennials and zoomers think of the 2003 Freaky Friday as “the original,” Disney has been milking this body-swapping franchise since 1976, back when a teenage Jodie Foster played the role of the younger daughter in the first film version, which was, adapted from the 1972 book by Mary Rodgers.

That said, the new 2025 sequel, Freakier Friday is fully rooted in early 2000s nostalgia, with zero knowledge of the 1970s required.

While Jamie Lee Curtis has been starring in nearly everything lately (she was in The Last Show Girl with Pamela Anderson and co-starred with Michelle Yeoh in Star Trek: Section 31) her return to the Freaky franchise is fairly epic.

So, who is getting body-swapped this time? Well, as Disney has revealed it’s a four-way body swap. At this point, Lohan’s character Anna is a mother now, and there’s also a step-daughter involved. Try to keep that straight!

Freakier Friday will hit theaters on August 8, 2025.
