There was finally some madness in this year’s NCAA Tournament, with a few fireworks on the first day of the Round of 32.
Fourth-seeded Purdue kicked off Saturday by beating No. 12 seed McNeese State. Then, No. 10 seed Arkansas upset second-seeded St. John’s, as legendary head coaches Rick Pitino and John Calipari squared off.
Fifth-seeded Michigan came back from a 10-point deficit to take down fourth-seeded Texas A&M, clinching a Sweet 16 bid after finishing last in the Big Ten last season.
Later on, No. 1 Auburn took control in the second half to beat No. 9 Creighton. Sixth-seeded BYU pulled off an upset over third-seeded Wisconsin, but not without drama. The Cougars nearly choked away an 11-point lead with under three minutes remaining before getting a stop at the buzzer.
No. 1 seed Houston, meanwhile, saw its 11-point lead dwindle down to one against No. 8 seed Gonzaga. But the Cougars made a big defensive stand in the final seconds to grab the victory. No. 2 seed Tennessee closed out the night with a relatively easy win over No. 7 seed UCLA.
Here are all the top moments from Saturday’s slate!
